TERRASAFE (TErrestrial Resilience and RestorAtion Strategies for (semi) Arid and Fragile Ecosystems through a multi-actor approach) has been funded!

In 2023, Efund initiated and assisted the consortium, led by the University of Aveiro, in securing funding for the TERRASAFE project, which responded to the HORIZON-MISS-2023-SOIL-01-04 – Innovations to prevent and combat desertification call.
The goal of TERRASAFE is to empower local communities in Southern Europe and Northern Africa to effectively combat desertification, a challenge exacerbated by climate change. Through a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach, the project aims to co-develop and co-implement nature-based, technological, and social innovations for land degradation prevention and restoration. The project’s pilot areas, which span Italy, Romania, Spain, Cyprus, and Tunisia, cover diverse desertification challenges such as land abandonment, vegetation decline, water scarcity, soil degradation, and salinization. By establishing five desertification innovation partnerships, one for each pilot area, the project engages local communities, landowners, scientists, policymakers, and NGOs in co-developing solutions tailored to the unique socio-ecological conditions of each region.
More information about the project will soon be available on the TERRASAFE website and the European Commission website.
